The Giorgio Armani-Samsung Mobile

For the first time Giorgio Armani's signature elegance and simplicity is applied to mobile phone design. A 2.6-inch QVGA TFT LCD screen maximizes the user's visual experience and optimizes the full touch-screen user interface. Along with the outer appearance of the phone, the graphical user interface (GUI) and audio user interface (AUI) also reflect Giorgio Armani's modern simplicity. By adapting a haptical UI, users can feel an immediate mild vibration when they touch icons on the display. Being the size of a credit card and a mere 10.5 mm in thickness, the Giorgio Armani-Samsung Phone fits sensuously into a user's palm.

Despite its compactness (87.5 x 54.5 x 10.5 mm/85g), the phone is loaded with multimedia features. It is equipped with a 3-megapixel camera, a music player supporting H.263, AAC+/MP3/WMA, MPEG4, AAC, e-AAC+ formats and a full internet browser. Furthermore, the Giorgio Armani-Samsung Mobile offers a microSD type external memory slot and comes with a Bluetooth stereo headset.

A specially designed Giorgio Armani leather carrying case is also included for protection.

The new GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz fashion phone will be available at Giorgio Armani's flagship stores and selected mobile phone shops in major European countries from November 2007, selling for approximately 650 EUR.

BPL Mobile launches icon-based WAP site

Mumbai's most recognised service provider, BPL Mobile along with Buongiorno on Monday launched its icon-based WAP site wap.mizone.bplmobile.com.

BPL Mobile and Buongiorno, a leading multinational in digital entertainment, have taken the lead to pioneer the XHTML technology, a press release issued here said today.

The look and feel of the BPL WAP site is icon-based instead of text-based. The complete content discovery process is a menu-based grid and thus the user finds both navigation and content discovery process extremely convenient, the release said.

The technology provided by Buongiorno recognises handset compatibility and then accordingly provides customised experience to every user, it said.

The WAP site has application adaptation by which if the handset supports a video-streaming player, the WAP site would show Mobile TV. It also has content adaptation and renders different content to different users based on the ability of the handset.

For instance, a Nokia N72 shall show different Java games and a Sony Ericsson K790i shall cater to a different content experience.

Commenting on the development from BPL's perspective, Sunzay Passari VP, VAS and Devices, said "presently, the WAP sites in India are not very user-friendly, using WML as the language, wherein the user is dependent on the content available for him in the list."

MySpace launches free mobile version

Millions of MySpace addicts can get their fix a little easier now: The social networking site is launching a free version for mobile phones.

Starting today, anyone with a Web-enabled mobile phone or PDA can access a scaled-down version of MySpace while on the move, to update friend requests, post messages or just tool around the site. Users will be subject to advertisements, provided and powered by Baltimore's Millennial Media.

Previously, mobile MySpacers had to pay about $3 a month to access a phone-friendly site. Now the popular site joins other Web content providers in scrapping subscriber fees for advertising support in a race to best deliver content to the small screens of mobile telephones and personal digital assistants.

MySpace parent company Fox Interactive Media said it plans to launch similar mobile sites "in the coming months" for other holdings, including its local television stations and AskMen.com, an online men's magazine. They will join a free mobile version of FOX Sports launched last month.

T-Mobile Unlocking iPhones!

So imagine my surprise when I walk out of the Apple Store and I see a T-Mobile Authorized Reseller in Kiosk form sporting this sign every so boldly near the realm of Apple: "We unlock iPhones! "

This was at the Fashion Island Apple Store in Newport Beach, CA (Apple Link) and if you’ve ever ventured there you’ll know that in addition to the regular brick and mortar stores, there’s a lot of kiosks in the open areas that resemble covered wagons on the oregon trail more than anything that generates money. I walked by the T-Mobile authorized reseller and noticed this little gem above but I didn’t get a chance to ask what method this dude was using. Also accessories were available, nothing special though.

Armani to launch mobile phone with Samsung

Italian designer Giorgio Armani has joined forces with Samsung Electronics to design a television and a mobile phone, along with other consumer electronics, the companies said on Sunday.

Armani, one of Italy's leading fashion designers, will unveil a mobile phone model on September 24 at his show for Giorgio Armani womenswear for spring and summer 2008, joining several other designers who have already tapped this market.

The Armani-Samsung phone will be the size of a credit card and 10.5 millimeters thick, the companies said in a statement.

Designers Dolce & Gabbana have teamed up with Motorola for a gold-colored version of the RAZR mobile phone model and Prada has developed a phone with South Korea's LG Electronics.

Armani said the liquid crystal display (LCD) television that it develops with Samsung will be unveiled in January 2008. Home electronics are still unusual territory for fashion designers, although several have launched interior design collections.

Luxury goods segments are benefiting from a surge in the wealthy alongside fast economic growth in countries such as China, India and Russia, while Middle East markets have strengthened as a boom in commodity prices increases incomes.

"We make as much of a personal statement with the mobile phones that we carry or the televisions that we have in our living rooms as we do with the shoes and bags we wear or the furnishings we choose," Armani said in the statement.

Sources say that its the Samsung's SGH-P520 is the same... let's wait till September 24, 2007. Samsung Armani SGH-P520 mobile phone will initially be available in Europe for 400 Euros ($550).
